The Kootenay Lake Historical Society is the custodian of the SS Moyie, the oldest passenger sternwheeler in the world that plied Kootenay Lake for 59 years. The Society operates the Archives which is a collection of information and original photographs of the history of Kaslo, BC and Kootenay Lake sternwheelers. Now permanently berthed in Kaslo, BC the sternwheeler SS Moyie, built in Nelson, British Columbia in 1898, is the oldest surviving vessel of her type. The SS Moyie is now a designated National Historic Site and a BC Landmark.
